Chatto meets cross-section; people feel him “WARM”

Rep. Edgar Chatto met various sectors in his tireless honoring of cross-section invitations that made more Boholanos, even those beyond his district, feel his “willing, able, ready and moving (WARM)” presence over the week.

The Bohol congressman, accompanied by wife Pureza and Guindulman officials led by Vice Mayor Marivic Golosino, began the week by climbing the mountain barangay of Biabas and inducting the officers of the Women of Eskaya Tribe Organization (WETO) headed by Susan Carmona last Sunday.

Eighty-two-year-old tribal chieftain Juan Datahan and his children Jovino and Cleofas, both barangay kagawads, hugged the solon who gave aid as initial livelihood fund for the association.

Chatto moved to the compound of the Philippine Benevolent Missionary Association (PBMA) and had a courtesy visit to PBMA-Bohol leader Flor Maquilang, who is also the Biabas captain.

In the plains of Guindulman, Chatto inducted the officers, led by Golosino, of the Parents-Teachers Community Association (PTCA) of the St. Mary’s Academy, the town’s biggest high school, and the officers, led by Liza Olaso-Laga, of the United Seaside Association (USA) in barangay of Tabahan. Both groups got aids, too.

In Ubay, Chatto shared development views with the members of the Association of Barangay Councils which meeting was also attended by Rep.Roberto Cajes, Mayor Eutiquio Bernales and Sangguniang Bayan members.

DISABLED CHILDREN

The Church-awarded congressman got praises for his concern for the disabled kids or special children during the turnover of the Book of Legacy at the Stimulation and Therapeutic Activity Center (STAC) of the Breaking Barriers for Children and Youths (BBYC) in Potohan, Tubigon midweek.

Chatto was cited together with the Katipunan ng mga Maykapansanan sa Pilipinas, Inc. (KAMPI) thru its regional head, Timoteo Quilas, Jr. who is also the president of the Bohol Federation of Disabled Persons, Inc. (BFDPI), Danish Society of Polio and Accident Victims (PTU), LGU of Tubigon led by Mayor Luna Piezas, STAC volunteers, and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Constancia Tuñacao.

The BBYC, a joint project of KAMPI, PTU and host town, has other satellite centers in Bohol. Its provincial center will soon rise in Tagbilaran City as aided by Chatto and the provincial government, among others.

BBYC National Project Director Visitacion Apostol and PTRP Bohol-Cebu Area Coordinator Irene Villa attended the Tubigon STAC affair.

TOURISM

On Thursday, Chatto graced together with Tourism Sec. Ace Durano, Usec. Eduardo Jarque, Dir. Rolando Cañizal and provincial officials the launching of the eco-adventure tour in Danao, which at the same time marked its Foundation Day.

Mayor Tomas Gonzaga will develop the Francisco Dagohoy Historical Sanctuary, a part of the eco-adventure tour, using the P1 million inserted by Chatto, in coordination with Cajes, in the 2009 national budget as asked by the mayor.

Chatto, House tourism committee chairman, sent a staff to relay his greetings to the teachers, students and parents during the foundation celebration of the Bantolinaio National High School in Antequera because of his Danao presence with the tourism secretary.

The congressman is working for the nationalization of the provincial road which is a vital link to the school as it connects Bantolinao to Poblacion, Antequera and to San Isidro town on the other side.

EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE

In Lila, Chatto graced the launching of the Citizen’s Charter which will ensure efficiency and competence in local governance. The occasion was also attended by Mayor Telesforo Balagosa, other town officials, DILG-Bohol head Rose Mascariñas and barangay leaders.

He also attended separate cluster meetings of former Kabataang Barangay (KB) fellow leaders for their grand reunion at the Bohol Cultural Center on July 17 as part of the 2009 Tigum Bol-anon sa Tibuok Kalibutan (TBTK).

LIVELIHOOD

Chatto’s office is coordinating with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) on a livelihood program for the Boholano overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), particularly those who are already back home.

Initial beneficiaries from different towns underwent an orientation facilitated by OWWA Regional Information Officer Ma. Venidez Gamale-Dayo and loan officer Tita Eunice Enriquez of VICTO-VCF, a conduit of the OWWA-NLSF Livelihood Development Program.

Chatto has pushed in Congress for the Magna Carta for OFWs in recognition of the migrant workers’ invaluable contribution that has helped keep the Philippine economy afloat.

Also for livelihood end, the congressman motivated all stakeholders for the development of the seaweed industry during the Bohol Seaweed Congress at the Agricultural Promotions Center here Friday.

Chatto, Division Chief Tiburcio Donaire of the Fisheries Extension Training and Communication Development of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Office, BFAR-Bohol head Cresencio Pahamutang and Provincial Agriculturist Liza Quirog awarded BFAR input-assisted projects and turned over assistance to the seaweed cooperatives and people’s organizations.

The solon cited the significance of the assembly which provided updates on the industry, situation of the demand and supply to local and world markets, relevant financing scheme for seaweed farming and crop insurance policies, among others.

The industry, which has target 100,000 beneficiary households in the next four years, can greatly help alleviate the living condition of the communities in Bohol’s 30 coastal towns. (Ven rebo Arigo)
