City dad urges purchase of bulldozer for dumpsite
Instead of finger pointing who to blame on the increasing threat of the rising garbage dumped in barangay Dampas, City Councilor Zenaido “Djingo” Rama is urging the city to buy a new bulldozer to lessen the piled garbage at the dumpsite access.
The proposal was officially submitted in a resolution authored by Rama himself.
This followed as barangay officials of Dampas declared that they will no longer manage the dumpsite operation, while asking the city to find solution to the situation that have seriously threaten the health and safety of their residents in the area.
There is only one bulldozer used to push dumped garbage into the dumpsite pit and everytime it breaks down, the garbage pile rises and stinks.
The plan is now being considered by the committee on appropriations and engineering.
A series of seminars on waste segregation at source beginning this week is also set to reduce by 50-70% garbage dumped at the Dampas waste facility. This would be a sustainable response to the worsening waste problem, city councilors agreed.
With the city’s 15 barangays estimated to dump an average of 100 tons per day, waste segregation at source is expected to cut on waste disposed and thus sustain the facility’s operations.
